We joined with 350.org and the campus sustainability office to sponsor a round table of many local groups working on various aspects of climate change. The result may be a new regional group on sustainability—stay tuned!
Many local groups are taking action against climate change. Clearwater conservancy protects land and water resources for future generations, supporting local food production through its “garden starters” program. The Sierra Club has taken a major role in raising awareness of the impacts of climate change on Pennsylvanians now, especially the impact of dependence on coal and other fossil fuels. Transition Towns is a movement to build more sustainable towns across the State and the world. Penn State’s own office of sustainability is in charge of reducing Penn State’s carbon footprint significantly in the future. Envinity is a a central Pennsylvania leader in green buildings, solar power, renewable energy, and energy audits. And, of course, PA IPL is making congregations and homes more energy efficient, raising awareness about our moral responsibility to address the climate change crisis.
On 10-10-10 we join with one another and with you to take action! Climate change is too big of an issue to take on alone. We need to make changes at home, in our places of work and worship, and in our state and our nation. |
