Earth Hour started in Australia five years ago and has since spread all over the globe. For an hour (8:30-9:30 p.m. local time), people everywhere will turn out the lights in an effort to increase awareness of Climate Change.
PA IPL board members are holding Earth Hour parties all over the state; to find one near you, call our office at 814-876-2597—or donate now, using the button to the right. Last year, I invited some musician friends to entertain us by fire and candlelight. We had a countdown at 8:30 (the kids loved this part) and I threw the main power switch; the house went dark and off went the children, playing flashlight tag. Check out the video from that party here.
Instead of a bottle of wine or flowers, we ask guests for a 20 dollar donation to PA IPL. Everyone has fun and your money goes to help congregations become more energy efficient. Better yet, why not join PA IPL now?
Find out more about the Earth Hour concept here. Several Pennsylvania municipalities have made Earth Hour proclamations—this past year, State College Mayor Elizabeth Goreham presented the proclamation to PA IPL Board member Bill Sharp.
