PSU-IPL is an official student club |
Pennsylvania Interfaith Power & Light has a special relationship with Penn State, and our office at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center is the home for Penn State students of faith who want to put their moral convictions into action. We have great upcoming events, including our positively green service day alternative to State Patty’s Day on February 25—register here! There is no fee to join the student group, but students are encouraged to become official members of PA IPL at a special low rate of $10. Last year was a terrific one for our club. We held a special round table for groups working on climate change for 10/10/10 and the positively green service day alternative to State Patty’s Day (Feb. 26) took students into people’s homes to help make them more energy efficient! Click here for more information on this activity, see the pictures on facebook, or check out the story in the local paper. We also held an Earth Hour Party on March 26- check out our new website. |

A Brief History of PSU-IPL |
In October, 2009, the Rock Ethics Institute of Penn State University sponsored a conference on “Stewardship or Sacrifice: Religion and the Ethics of Climate Change” made possible by a generous grant from the Tanker Family Foundation. The Rev. Canon Sally Bingham gave one of the keynote speeches, and at the end of that conference, about 40 attendees agreed to consider starting a PA chapter of IPL. An interim steering committee was elected at a first meeting on November 15, 2009. In February, 2010, PSU-IPL became an official student group, with Arielle Hesse as President and Barbara Donnini as treasurer and student intern. Presentations were made to several student clubs and we opened our office in room 205 of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center on June 1. In 2011 Michael Regula was president and Adam Boyer treasurer. Barbara Donnini was student intern, and Prof. Ken Davis served as faculty advisor. This year, Barbara Donnini is president and Adam Boyer is treasurer; Neill Johnson serves as advisor. |
